[TechSucks] Sony totally fucked over XCP
Seems like Sony totally fucked it up with their Digital Restriction Management (DRM) called XCP this time.
After some guys used the Rootkits mechanism to hide all files starting with '$sys$' to write a cheating tool for World of Warcraft here's the next big thing:
Apparently, the Virus Writing Community has written a nice little virus exploiting XCP's 'features' and everyone blames Sony for it.
You know, I think this should happen more often. There should be a whole lot more virii abusing DRM stuff to hammer the truth into these idiotic corporations:
IF STUFF IS WORTH BUYING IT WILL BE BOUGHT! DRM WILL NOT ONLY BRING YOU BAD PUBLICITY BUT ALSO GET YOU LESS AND LESS BUYERS!
Nobody cares about the four trillionth song sounding almost (but not quite) exactly like the three-odd trillion songs before! And I'm certainly not shelling out twenty or even more bucks for something just as crappy as the last stuff.
Oh, and btw: The EFF has published a list about which CDs are infected with XCP. I took the liberty to search for a few of them on my filesharing program of choice and each one was there.
